The Eden Estuary Local Nature Reserve is a rich and diverse landscape of mudflats, sandbanks and saltmarshes. In winter these habitats support thousands of migratory birds such as grey plovers, shelducks and the most northerly concentration of black-tailed godwits in Britain.

Look for resident peregrines and visiting osprey during the summer months. But birds are not the only attraction. Common seals rest on the sandbanks at Out Head and porpoises and bottlenose dolphins are regularly seen offshore.

The entire site is a site of special scientific interest (SSSI) and forms part of the Forth of Tay and Eden Estuary special protection area (SPA).

Watch out! Fast moving tides and shifting mud can be very dangerous. Take care when walking and stay near the high water mark.
